Sturgis Motorcycle Rally: Just Do It!

Wow! I’m pretty sure I said that a lot during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally because much of the time my jaw was hanging down to my knees while I mumbled “I can’t believe I’m seeing this!” The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally attracts bike enthusiasts from across the country who flock to Rally Week for the visual parade of bikes, interesting and colorful people, outrageous fun and fashion, and scenic bike rides through the spectacular Black Hills. We took several great rides through Custer State Park, the Needles Highway, Spearfish Canyon, and to Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore.

The Sturgis Rally was even more exciting for me because my two brothers and a buddy who live on the east coast flew to Denver, rented bikes, and road to the Rally to hang with us for the week. I have lived on the west coast my entire adult life, so having a week with my bros – in Sturgis – was an over-the-top crazy fun week!

Sturgis 2016, unfortunately, rained or hailed every day except for the final rally day. While we still road, at some point along the way we were forced to dodge rain, pelted with ice-cube size hail, and blown sideways by blustering winds. But hey, this just gives juice to the story-telling later… as my brother Randy would say, “Never let the facts get in the way of a good story!”

It was an exhilarating feeling riding through the beautiful Black Hills with your compadres… and hundreds of fellow bikers. We felt like we were a part of something bigger – riding along enjoying an amazing experience with others who share our kindred fellowship; weirdos and all.
